Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers are natural or synthetic hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is key in keeping skin youthful, plump and hydrated. With age hyaluronic acid depletes leaving the skin sagging and dehydrated.

Fat pads in the face start to diminish causing loss of volume and firmness and gravity causes lines and wrinkles to form.

Dermal fillers can replace some of the volume to create a fuller, fresher, younger, more-contoured, smoother face.

What actually is a Dermal Filler?

Essentially the filler is a gel like substance which is biodegradable.

The gel comes in different thicknesses according to the area in which you would like to increase volume.

The gel is injected with fine needles to give an instant result.

Dermal Fillers act as a substitute for the skins natural collagen.

Where can I have Dermal Filler?

Dermal Fillers can be injected into most areas of the face that ageing has induced wrinkles, hollows or sagging.

The most common areas to treat are cheeks, nasolabial lines (nose to mouth lines), marionette lines (mouth to chin lines), lips, tear troughs (under eyes) and jowls (along jawline).

Other areas include temples, smokers lines around the mouth, frown lines and the chin.

How much filler will i need?

This is very individual, many factors such as age, skin damage from the sun, smoking, weight loss and lifestyle and genetics all play a part in our skin health.

The amount will depend upon your expectations and budget.

One treatment is often enough for you to achieve your goal.

This will be discussed at your free consultation.

Does it hurt?

Prior to the treatment anaesthetic cream can be applied to help numb the area.

The Fillers themselves contain lignocaine which helps to relieve any discomfort.

The procedure is not pain free, however, it is very well tolerated.

How long does it last?

The results are instantaneous with optimum results achieved at 7 days.

The effects can last from several months to years depending on the area of treatment, type of filler, skin type, metabolism and lifestyle.

How long is the treatment?

The treatment itself lasts around 30 minutes.

You may notice some redness, and swelling after the procedure which is to be expected.

Most people won’t need any down time.

Are there any side effects/complications/risks ?

The most common side effects are redness, swelling, tenderness at the injection site and bruising, however, this is minor and temporary.

It is advised not to drink alcohol for 24 hours prior or after treatment, and avoid anti inflammatory pain relief medication for 7 days before treatment.

Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions are very rare.

There are other rare complications that can occur which will be discussed at your consultation.

If there is a complication to your Dermal Filler treatment this can be reversed with Hyalase injection.
